You know, not all gays look like this… Why is it that every gay related picture has to have young men with 6 pack abs and bulging muscles? Is it wrong to be a size 48 and be gay? Is it wrong to not have a perky bottom and be gay? Come on!

    Come on Tom!

No one is saying that all gay men look like this – or should look like this. Heaven forbid! I take this as an image of four men raising a gay flag, Nothing more or less. Three of the men are white. Why don’t you extend your complaint to say that the image is implying that three quarters of gay men have to be white?

It’s just an unfortunate fact of advertising (gay or straight) that people in marketing are ageist, racist, sexist and weightist. Let’s not let their bias prevent us from seeing the more important message in the ad.

Gay culture “usually” does not feature Black Men as part of the “Hot Buff Young Man Equation”. In fact, anybody past 40 is automatically left out, as are women, trannies, drag queens (for the most part), and anybody NOT EXTREMELY HANDSOME AND BUFF !

Why’s the black dude there ? You don’t see a lot of blacks on Castro — ever. Or other minorities either — they say they don’t “feel comfortable there”, and have even been called racist names BY OTHER GAYS !!

    Go figure, Blanche !

It’s a very strange fact of life that those who have been marginalized and ostracized themselves are often apt to repeat the behavior towards others. Take your example of racist gays or sexism in rap culture or better yet, everyones favorite example of Israeli treatment of Arabs.

This “image” just reinforces my opinion (and that of many other gay men too) that too-much of gay “life” is about sex, Hot Sex, Sexuality and “Meeting Mista Right Now”. Relationships are distance and really something of a cruel joke. Once the sex is over with, so is the “so-called” relationship. Ask most gay men, and you will hear echoes of this comment.

I’m a gay author and historian and would like to discuss using this photo on my new gay history book. Does anyone have a contact with the photographer or owner of the copyright? Thanks.

Also notice: No older gay men, certainly no one in this photo is over – GASP! – 30 years of age. No fats, no fems, no Drag Queens, no Trannies, no Lesbians of any type……..NO-NO-NO ! Get the “specialized, pornographic-like message here ” ? Young, skinny, trendy, monied…….and that’s all.

    Hey-

I’m doing a documentary for school called Mom & Mom: Misunderstood Parents. I would like to use this in my documentary, and would like your permission to do so.

    Thank you,

      Hi Deirdre,

Your doc sounds interesting! You are welcome to use any aspect of Anonymous Pond you like. However, the image that we used for this post doesn’t belong to us – we found it in Google Images but don’t know who the original owner of it is.

It seems as though it’s the kind of image that has been floating around for a while and may have been part of some Pride ad or something. So, as far as copyright is concerned you have our permission to use any part of this site. If it is an individual image that you’d like to use I would try to find the owner and failing that I’d say the decision is yours to make.

      Good luck!

Don’t forget to send us a link to your doc when it’s done so we can see it too!

    Come on guys, chill!
If I had to look at men, I rather them be handsome like these guys.
    Relax!

This is…there are no words. You are defacing our flag and what this monument represents simply cuz you choose to have sex with someone who is your gender. There comes a line…that line was crossed here.

    1. Lisa

Don’t be silly Sue. If you knew anything at all about the raising of the flag at Iwogima, you’d be more ashamed than proud.

I think there body tone has a far greater meaning here that just simple ‘handsome young gay guys’ this photograph holds a positive representation of gay marriage, it shows strength (in body tone) determination (the scene is that of a mountain top, suggesting they climbed to the top of it) and unity, as they’re all lifting it together. Really dont think its about how buff they are…
